Reharsals ... IMPORTANT CALENDAR NOTE

If you're new to band, you must get in the habit of viewing the above calendar weekly.

The calendar is where canellations, important notes and set lists are posted. Alterations or cancellations can sometimes be made very close to rehearsal start times, should something arise which is out of our control - please do check this page weekly, before leaving for rehearals.

Please read all scanning notes before you start scanning.

Scanning Note 1 - Before Scanning "Consistent File Names"

music title / dots not spaces / instrument name / page number

• It’s important that your scanned files are named in a consistent way, for us to store them digitally.

• Please replace spaces within your scanned file names with dots or hyphens.

• Please do not use any special characters such as @, &, #, {, }, [, ], *, §. Files with special characters won’t be visible to band members when uploaded.

• End your file name with page numbers, using a hyphen and page number - i.e. -1.jpg / -2.jpg

Sample of a GOOD File Name = Glen.Miller.Medley-1st.Sax-1.jpg

Sample of a GOOD File Name = Glen-Miller-Medley-1st.Sax-1.jpg

Sample of a BAD File Name = Glen*Miller*Medley @Sax.jpg

Scanning Note 2 - Before Scanning "Image Resolution, Colour, File Size"

200 dpi to 300dpi / black & white scan / 4MB max file size

• Before you start scanning, please set your scanner settings to ‘200’ to ‘300’ dpi’ resolution.

• Please ensure scans are black and white only and not RGB or CMYK. RGB and CMYK files drastically increase file sizes and are too big to upload.

• Keep an eye on file sizes as each scan should be no more than 4 MB maximum per scan.

• If you want to email us a test scan please do info@broadstone-community-concert-band.co.uk

Scanning Note 3 - Before Scanning "Contrast"

black music notes not grey

• Again, before you start scanning, if your scanner has a manual contrast setting, make sure the white of the page is white and not light grey, and that the music lines are in-tact, not broken up and the music notes are black and not grey.

Scanning Note 4 - Before Scanning "Cropped Scans"

least amount of white border

• You should be able to preview your scans before scanning each time, if at all possible please crop your scans so they have the smallest white border around the outside, rather than scanning the entire page with a bigger white border.

If you can do this it means when everyone prints their music, if they can use the “fit to page” facility on their printer, the scanned image is enlarged to print as big as possible on A4, this might print the music between 10% and 15% bigger.

Scanning Note 5 - Before Scanning "File Type"

jpeg file type / black and white images only

• Please scan each side of each page of and save your scans as a black and white .jpg  / .jpeg file, please also scan the entire score.

• Please ensure scans are black and white only and not RGB or CMYK. RGB and CMYK files drastically increase file sizes and are too big to upload.

We have made the decision to go with mono jpeg images rather than pdfs or other file formats. This is to help those band members who are less computer savvy. Most people will have printed an image from their computer before, but not everyone has Acrobat Reader installed even though it’s free.

Scanning Note 6 Save Your Scanner Settings

If your scanner has the ability to save these settings please do so for use next time.

Scanning Note 7 Sending Your Scans Back To Us

Please ensure when you are given the music to scan that you are also given a USB stick to save your scans on to, please don’t forget to scan the entire score as well as all music parts. Please hand your complete original music sheets and USB stick back to Lynne or Damon, so it can be stored and then uploaded for members to print off.
